Data Handling: Choice of Graphs by {Zhao Siting}

I think that a piechart is not appropriate as it only shows the percentage and the percentages are also rounded off to the nearest whole number so it may not be very accurate as compared to the others.

For the other graphs, they all indicate the number of places that are sunny, windy, cloudy, shower or having a thunderStorm. So that makes the rest more appropriate than the pie chart.

  1. Pie chart shows the 'proportion', which tells us how often each type of weather occurs by the size of each pie. So, it's still appropriate.

    There are situations when we do not require the exact figures, but just need to tell the 'size' of occurrence at a glance. That's where pie chart is useful.

    So, which graph is inappropriate, and why?

    1. Line graphs are used to present trends, it is not appropriate in this situation as we are unable to tell the 'relationship' between each type of weather.
