4 Stages of Statistical Study

Data is a collection of facts or information

(A) Collection
Data are gathered by using the following methods:
  • Taking measurements
  • Collecting surveys
  • Observing the outcomes of events
(B) Organisation
Data can be organised in a structured way
  • e.g. Frequency Table; Data can be grouped

(C) Display
Data can be presented in tables, graphs or charts.
Choice of display depends on the type of information to be presented
  • e.g. Bar graph, pie chart, line graph, histogram
(D) Interpretation
Using data/ visuals to draw out patterns, trends
Use mean, median, mode to describe behaviour.
